Here is the first, beginning of year list of TRUE POSITION player position changes from MFL's default positions. True Position, of course, refers to the defensive positions of Edge Rusher, Interior Defensive Lineman, and Off-Ball Linebacker. MFL, in their backwardsness, does not support these positions, and so to use True Pos on MFL leagues, Edges are classified as DE, DI as DT, and Off-Ball LB as LB.
Probably the most controversial, and biggest named IDP, to have their position changed below is JJ Watt of the Cardinals. It seems as though both ESPN, and the Athletic's Cardinals beat writer Doug Haller, are projecting Watt to be a starter on a 3-man front, with both Chandler Jones and Markus Golden as the starting OLB/Edge Rushers. Because of this I have listed Watt as a DI/DT. However, I'm not expecting that to last the offseason. First off, Watt hasn't played predominantly inside in years. He'll shoot inside on some passing downs from time to time, of course, but he spends the predominant amount of snaps out on the Edge. Secondly, the Cards may say they run a 3-4 on paper, but they really don't. In fact, they're in a 3-4 front less often than league average. On most snaps, they have only 2 DI on the field, and actually use 3 Edge rushers in an unbalanced formation, more than typical. Now, their personnel this year is going to be very different than they had last year, when Chandler Jones was lost to injury. So maybe the plan really is to have Watt inside the tackle. We'll see. But I bet he ends up an Edge.
